If I had to choose a favorite season, it would probably be summer – because sunshine – but in truth there are things I love about every season. I love that one day in the spring when, no matter how carefully you were watching the trees every morning to see if today would be the day, suddenly everything is in bloom and the trees are green again. I love summer sunsets, and that deep, deep blue of the sky reflected on drifts of snow in the winter just before the sun comes up and just after it goes down. I love the smell of fall, and the sound of leaves crunching underfoot. And I love the changing – the way season shifts into season, and the rhythms of rain and sun and warm and cold and how they work together. Still – summer. Because sunshine.
That said: if you are a fall person – I don’t know how they did it, but Bath and Body Works has created a new handsoap that smells exactly like fall. It’s called Crisp Morning Air, and it’s amazing enough that it almost makes me want summer to end. Almost. But not quite.
In other news – one of my best friends is getting married today. 🙂 And I’m in the wedding, as his best woman. (Personally, I would have gone with “co-best man”, since I’m not really hung up on gender constructs, but whatever.) 😉 I’m pretty excited. The Professor is standing up as his best man, too, and thinking tonight about everything the three of us have been through together, and the way their friendship has changed my life for the better, I am feeling ridiculously blessed. The Bible talks about “a friend who sticks closer than a brother” – and I have found that sort of friend in these two men. I seriously can’t imagine life without them, and can’t wait to celebrate this awesome new season in my bestie’s life.
One of the fun things about the role I get to play in this wedding was that I got to go to the bachelor party. No offense to any of the women whose bachelorette parties I’ve attended – but that party was way more fun than a lot of parties I’ve been to. We went to Texas de Brazil and ate until we couldn’t anymore. (And I’ll admit it – I was done long before anyone else, lol.) If I ever get married – I want to do that for my party. Because it was awesome.
And no, it wasn’t awkward. I didn’t feel out of place, having dinner with a bunch of guys and being the only woman present. Because it wasn’t about gender – it was about friendship. If any of the guys thought it was weird that I was there, they never said a word, nor did they act like it was strange for me to be there. I know all of them, at least on some level, and it was just us, hanging out with our friend, and sharing in his joy. In some ways, it felt like a little slice of heaven. Because there will, of course, be bacon bushes – and gender won’t be an “issue” in heaven, either.
Yes, bacon bushes. I can’t claim authorship of that idea – I think it was the Jedi Pastor’s dad who thought it up – but it’s brilliant. I mean, ok – in heaven, no more death right? So no animals dying to provide meat, which probably makes us all vegetarians (and I’m sure we’ll love it). But then there’s the thing about bacon being amazing. And lamb. And steak. But mostly bacon. How can it be heaven without bacon? Well, clearly, the solution to this problem is that bacon will start growing on bushes. To be more specific: burning bushes. (So that the bacon will be hot.) But the bushes will not burn up (which has Biblical precedent) – and neither will the bacon. And you won’t get burned taking it off the bush either.
Breakfast in heaven is going to be awesome. (As will everyone’s pictures of it on social media.)
Oh, wait…
I love the sentiment of this video from Journey Box media. I realize there’s a bit of irony in sharing this online – but still. Look up. 🙂
