innocence, loss, and hard-won faith

innocence, loss, and hard-won faith

Sometimes I miss what Sarah Bessey calls the “happy clappy” days of my faith.  I was sixteen when I decided that being a follower of Jesus was going to be something that defined me for the rest of my life, and in some ways the decision is still that simple: “Yes.” But there was an innocence…

when healing is coming

when healing is coming

Three years ago today, I had an epic bicycle accident.  (Talk about making tax day worse; it’s surefire, but I wouldn’t recommend it.)  It doesn’t really seem possible that it’s been three years.  Entire lifetimes have happened between then and now, and yet the handful of details I actually remember are still as clear as…

four things to do when you’ve had a lousy day

four things to do when you’ve had a lousy day

I had a young friend, a long time ago, who would start her prayers at the end of the day in one of two ways: “Dear God, thank you for a good (great, awesome) day today.” or “God…  This was not the best day in the world.” It still makes me laugh a little, the…

The St. Jude Novena For Protestants

The St. Jude Novena For Protestants

Several months ago, Jen Fulweiler posted a link to a website call PrayMoreNovenas, inviting others to join her in praying the Novena to the Holy Spirit.  (A novena is a set of prayers prayed over the course of a few days, focusing on specific prayer intentions.)  Even though I’m not Catholic, I signed up for the mailing…

Meet Happy

Thanks for visiting!

Simple Felicity is, at its heart, a blog based on the unshakeable belief that happiness really isn't all that complicated. Sometimes finding it can be - but happiness itself is pretty simple, and it's often found in the simplest of things: good food, good books, and good company. So those are the things I write about, along with a few other things that really matter to me, including faith and feminism.

A bit about me: My name is Happy. I have an amazing talent for misplacing my keys, a deep appreciation for whomever looked at the coffee bean and thought, "Hey, I wonder what would happen if I roasted this?", and road trips to Michigan are pretty much my favorite.

Contact me anytime at simplefelicity7 (at) gmail (dot) com! I'd love to hear from you.
