welcome to Simple Felicity!

i’ve been working on this website for at least four months, maybe longer.  dreaming of it for even longer than that.  and now it’s … well, it’s not finished.  i finally realized that if i waited until i’d shifted all the content i wanted to from my old blog to my new site, it would be 2015 before anyone saw it, lol.

it isn’t everything i want it to be yet – changes and additions are coming, so even if you add this site to your feed reader, please be sure to come back from time to time to check it out.  better yet, come back every time you see a new post, and leave a comment or ask a question, or engage in the conversation already happening on a post.  C.S. Lewis said that we read to know we are not alone – which I think is true – but some of us write to know the same thing.  i’m just sayin’… 😉

i think 2014 is going to be an incredible year for me, personally.  over the past few months as i’ve been reading through old posts on my blog and shifting them over here, i’ve begun to see patterns in the things i tend to write about, and moments i’d written down and forgotten all about have started to make sense in the grander scheme of things.  i’ve come a long way since i first started coming to terms with my inner Donna Reed, and i’m finally starting to find my voice.  (launching this website and committing to writing more often are a big piece of that.)  i’ve discovered so much freedom now that i am finally speaking up about things i care about without worrying (quite so) much about what people will think.  i can’t wait to see where investing in Simple Felicity will lead over the next year; i think it’s going to be a wild and crazy – and amazing – ride.

i usually spend the first day of the year thinking and praying about what’s to come, asking God for direction as i set new goals.  this year, i am keeping it simple.

  1. write more (this one will be readily measurable.  if i write once a week, it’s a win.  my hope is to write more often than that, but once a week is the goal.)
  2. hold back less (this one will be tougher to measure, but i’ll know.  it’s all about vulnerability.)
  3. take (smart) relational risks (invest more time in deep friendships, and maybe actually say the things that nobody really says but should – things like “you’re currently my favorite person on the planet” or “spending time with you today made everything better”)

oh sure, there are other things i want this year to hold – wiser financial decisions, less debt, more savings; weight loss, exercise, Zumba, biking; a sink that isn’t full of dishes, and hiring a maid.  (ok, so i’m kidding about the maid, since it would cancel out the whole wiser financial decisions thing – but still there are days i think about it!  lol.)  but it’s those three things on my “simple” list that will make this year count.

what about you?  what do you want to see this next year hold for you?

This is so inspiring, Hap. Thank you for being brave and putting this together. There are many young women behind you who are thankful for the way you are paving.

Meet Happy
Simple Felicity is, at its heart, a blog based on the unshakeable belief that happiness really isn't all that complicated. It's often found in the simplest of things: good food, good books, and good company. So those are the things I write about, along with a few other things that really matter to me, including faith and feminism. A bit about me: My name is Happy. I have an amazing talent for misplacing my keys, a deep appreciation for whomever looked at the coffee bean and thought, "Hey, I wonder what would happen if I roasted this?", and road trips to Michigan are pretty much my favorite.
