7 Quick Takes Friday (vol. 40): some music, a tweet, and, um…llamas. well, sort of.

This pretty much made my week.  🙂

One of the happiest sounds in the world are baby chuckles.  There’s so much pure joy and innocence when babies laugh – and have you ever noticed that baby chuckles are contagious?  I needed a good laugh today – and it turns out taking a slap-happy toddler to the park was the best idea ever.  Baby chuckles galore!

So I’m trying my hand at a different kind of writing this afternoon.  The Professor’s company is marketing a game next week, and I’m writing the press release.  We’ll see how it goes – I’ve never written a press release before, and as of right now, I know very little about the game itself.   Should be a fun afternoon!  🙂

On a related side-note, if you just happen to be a game developer (or know someone who is), you should check out Syrrax Services.  Who knows?  I could be writing your press release next.  😉

Three words: The Goldfish Song.

You’re welcome.

I came across a really interesting article this week: ‘We Have Always Fought’: Challenging the ‘Women, Cattle, and Slaves’ Narrative, by Kameron Hurley.  Her opening illustration about the cannibal llamas really caught my attention, and the way she used it to make her point about the narratives we perpetuate was brilliant.  (For my readers under 18, I want you to do me a favor and not follow that link without parental permission, tho, okay?)

I’ve been reading and thinking a lot this year about gender constructs, and I thought Hurley’s perspective on the ways storytelling can promote those constructs in some unhelpful ways was very insightful.

We won’t even talk about what this narrative perpetuates, but this version of “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” is hauntingly beautiful.

Have a great weekend!

Meet Happy
Simple Felicity is, at its heart, a blog based on the unshakeable belief that happiness really isn't all that complicated. It's often found in the simplest of things: good food, good books, and good company. So those are the things I write about, along with a few other things that really matter to me, including faith and feminism. A bit about me: My name is Happy. I have an amazing talent for misplacing my keys, a deep appreciation for whomever looked at the coffee bean and thought, "Hey, I wonder what would happen if I roasted this?", and road trips to Michigan are pretty much my favorite.
